About Joe Wilson
Joe Wilson has been a professional journalist and newspaperman for more than 20 years in both his native Ohio and Oregon. He goes by the moniker pdxjoe on many social networks such as Twitter.
He is currently the publisher and editor of the Molalla Pioneer newspaper and writes a weekly human-interest column for Eagle Newspapers which owns 20 publications in Oregon, Washington and Idaho. His sometimes controversial “Just Joe” column illuminates many of life’s simplest subjects that most people take for granted, tackles sticky issues, defends those who nobody wants to talk about and sometimes is about “Just Joe.”
When he’s not working as a newspaper publisher, he’s a freelance writer, independent radio producer, and videographer with one foot in old media and the other in the new. He’s also the co-host of “The Becky and Joe Show” on PDX.fm every Monday at noon and 1 p.m. It’s amazing he just doesn’t fall over sometimes. He has a presence on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, among other social networking and new media Web sites.
Wilson began his career as a writer at the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Since then he has reported from and edited several newspapers throughout Oregon’s Willamette Valley, led Portland’s Daily Journal of Commerce into the digital age and was managing editor of a national trade magazine focused on the hospitality and travel industries, Hotel & Motel Management.
Wilson has served on numerous executive boards including a vision council for the United Way of the Columbia-Willamette. He has won several awards including the Oregon Newspaper Publishers’ Association’s General Excellence Award.
His latest interest in in helping a fine group of journalists form a non-profit news outlet incubator group in the Portland, Ore. area. Joe sees real potential in those who aspire to practice old media ethics in the new media realm.
He loves to tell people’s stories. Have a story you want to pitch to him? He’ll listen.
