This is a story about my friend and colleague Vera Erickson who died last week. She was an inspiration to most people she met, but even more so to journalists and female journalists especially.

Vera Erickson, Oregon’s oldest working journalist, died early Friday morning at her Molalla home, just days after publishing what would be her last newspaper column.

Vera Erickson, 92, died in the arms of her daughter, Rosalie Knudson, around 2 a.m. on Friday, April 16 after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last week.
